
Soroptimist International Seattle South ( SISS ) is a vibrant, dynamic service organization for today’s women who are committed to a world where women and girls have the resources and opportunities to reach their full potential and live their dreams.
We are part of an international 501(c)3 volunteer organization for service and community volunteer minded women. Our local club is where we enjoy fellowship and work together to help improve our community and to improve the lives of women and girls in the cities of Burien, Tukwila, South Seattle and Des Moines, Washington community and throughout the world.

Our Beginnings
Soroptimist International was founded in 1921, in Oakland California by 80 working, professional women representing who joined together to “foster the ideal of service.”
From that small beginning, the organization has grown to some 70,000 members in over 120 countries of the world. Service remains the heart of our organization.

Our Goals
- Maintain high ethical standards in business and professional life.
- Strive for human rights for all people and, in particular, to advance the status of women.
- Develop a spirit of friendship and unity among Soroptimists of all countries.
- Develop interest in community, national and international affairs.
- Contribute to international understanding and universal friendship.

Our first meeting of our fiscal year is August 20th, 2025. We generally meet the first and third Wednesday of each month at Merrill Gardens Community Room in Burien. The first Wednesday is a noon meeting and the third Wednesday of the month is an evening meeting.
